So I’ve had the new version A for a few days now and I have to say it’s a nice little radio. XBand repeat works. In fact there’s like 4 modes of xband repeat. I understand the regular xband and the locked band repeat. Just not sure what the other 2 do exactly. I have a call out to Wouxun to explain a bit better what they do.
Audio clarity is great. Microphone gain issues seem to be resolved. Rotary encoder is fixed. If you turn the knob at a normal pace it keeps track very well. However if you spin it like your trying to get the 1.00 mark on the Price is Right wheel it will skip. Not a big deal.
I haven’t mounted it mobile yet and I am anxious to see if there is any interference issues. Some of the inter-mod that I was experiencing before with the first version seems to be better now. I’d have to record the audio for a few days and see if I still get it as much. Squelch may just be a bit higher.
If Wouxun releases this radio around the 250-275$ mark I would recommend it hands down.
They include a speaker-mic, 2 remote head mounting brackets ( flush and angled up ), a bracket to actually clip the head to the dash or other surface and a new remote head cable make of CAT5.
Various mounting screws, fuses and a mic holder as well.
I think all in all the new 920R-A is a great buy for the price compared to the Big-3 and their pricing. Support and lifetime durability is yet to come but the customer service that I have received with this unit serves as an example I think Wouxun might dominate the market for a little while until the others catch up. We all know that they copy off one and other and it’s inevitable that one day someone from Company XYZ will make something greater but first to market before X Mas this year might be something hard to beat.
If anyone wants to hear some TX and RX audio samples let me know and I will post them for everyone to enjoy.
Now to wait for the 588UV version 2 and see if these 2 importers are a true competition to the ICOMKENWOODYAESU dominated market.
