So after months of fiddling with the board I got I decided to abandon that project and start with something pre-packaged. After some reasearch I found the DVRPTR_V1 board that was originally built in Germany had been taken over by a group of hams here in Canada specifically in Montreal not to far from my […]
Tower Building Part 3
The concrete is poured, the tower is level and the ham is happy 🙂 Thanks to the help of Norm VA3NPL the tower is sitting in it’s new permanent resting place on the side of the QTH. The only thing I would have done differently would be how I braced the tower section. I calculated […]
Tower Building Part 2
So the next part in my project is to build the rebar cage that goes inside the concrete base. Based on the specs in the Trylon drawing there should be 20 Vertical bars and 5 horizontal bars. I ordered my stuff from AGF Raymond here in Ottawa. Sent them the drawings and they bent all […]
Tower Building Part 1
Finally I got the tower project started. I have a Trylon Titan T400-72 This is a 9 section freestanding tower. It requires a minimum of 6 cubic yards of concrete with a rebar cage on the inside to reinforce the block. I’ll be adding a 4″ conduit that will route the cable from the tower […]

DStar Wiring
I got the wiring done up just like the diagram specified but for some reason it won’t key up the radio on transmit. I can receive and decode the DStar data stream with no issues. Â I have emailed a few resources and waiting for a reply.
Setting up the new Dutch*Star Mini Hotspot Board
Today is the day that I try setting  up my new Dutch*Star mini hotspot board to my Kenwood D700 From what I can read it should be a quick and easy process for the wiring.  DB9 at one end and a Mini 6 Pin DIN at the other. I went to the local electronics store here […]
My crude IRLP setup
Just finished wiring up my IRLP node again. From the signal reports it’s sounding great! I’ll make it look a little prettier in the next few days.
Still waiting on my AT-5888.
Back in December I got an email from the folks over at Anytone who said they’d be shipping me a new 5888UV once the bugs are all worked out. Just wanted to let everyone know that I haven’t abandoned the cause to review these great radios. Cheers JD
Ham Radio Pilot
A member of my repeater club has taken his beautiful Cessna 310 Island hopping in the Bahamas. I’m personally extremely jealous but none the less here are his videos.
